A digital shift management system for a railway company.
Developed a web portal and mobile app for a railway company to digitize shift management and eliminate paper-based processes.

TECHNOLOGY CHOICE
- Frontend (Web): Developed using React.js, providing a fast, responsive, and dynamic user experience for shift management and administrative operations.
- Mobile Application: Built using React Native, enabling a cross-platform mobile experience for operatives on both Android and iOS devices.
- Backend: Powered by ASP.NET Core, offering a scalable, secure, and high-performance API layer for business logic, shift processing, user authentication, and real-time updates.
- Database: Utilized Microsoft SQL Server for structured, reliable data storage and complex query handling with high availability and integrity.
- Architecture: Designed as a modular, service-based architecture ensuring scalability, maintainability, and ease of integration with future features.

THE CHALLENGE
The railway company relied on manual, paper-based shift allocations, causing delays in communication, inefficiencies in shift approvals, and lack of real-time visibility into operative availability.
SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION
Phase 1 – Completed: Digital Dividend delivered a fully integrated digital ecosystem to modernize the client’s operations. The solution included:
Phase 2 – In Progress Enhancements:
- Centralized Shift Management Portal: A web-based admin portal was developed using React.js, enabling supervisors to create, assign, approve, or reject operative shifts in real time with full visibility.
- Mobile Application for Operatives: A React Native mobile app was built to provide operatives with instant access to their upcoming shifts, allowing them to accept or decline with reasons, enhancing communication transparency and operational flexibility.
- Automated Workflow for Shift Reallocation: When an operative declines a shift, the system immediately triggers availability for other operatives, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal shift coverage.
- Real-Time Notifications: Instant alerts and notifications were implemented for approvals, rejections, and changes to shift status, improving responsiveness across all levels.
- Audit Trails and Reporting: The backend, developed in ASP.NET Core, includes logging and reporting features to help administrators track shift histories, monitor trends, and generate performance reports.
- Robust Data Management: All data is securely stored and managed using Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring reliability, integrity, and scalability of the system.
- User Role Management: Custom user roles were implemented for admins, supervisors, and operatives, ensuring access control and data segregation.
- Cross-Platform Accessibility: With a responsive web portal and a cross-platform mobile app, users can interact with the system from anywhere, ensuring operational continuity.
Phase 2 – In Progress Enhancements:
- Real-Time Chat: A real-time chat feature will be introduced to improve direct communication between operatives and supervisors for faster coordination and issue resolution.
- Sentinel Credit Display: Operatives will be able to view their Sentinel credit directly within the mobile app, enhancing transparency and compliance tracking.
